Vitamin B Complex
Vitamin B complex includes vitamins B1 (thiamine), 2 (riboflavin) ,3 (niacinamide/niacin) ,5 (pantothenic acid) ,6 (pyridoxine). These vitamins are essential for a wide range of functions in the human body including metabolism, maintenance of energy production, DNA/RNA synthesis/repair, production of numerous signaling molecules between our cells, redox reactions (how are body builds up and breaks down different compounds), health of nerves, blood cells.
You should not get IV therapy that includes B complex if you have any of the contraindications listed in **. Also, you should not get this if you have a history of gout or oxalate kidney stones. There is some evidence that birth control may be less effective.
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)
This vitamin plays a large role in energy metabolism, immune function and proper functioning the nervous system. It has a role in avoidance of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease. There also appears to be neurodegenerative disease protection for diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
As a power antioxidant, this vitamin maintains the health of blood cells and plays a role in metabolism.
Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
The proper functioning of the nervous and digestive systems rely on vitamin B3. It is needed for metabolism and energy production; as well has playing a large role in the health of all things collagen, such as skin, hair and nails.
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)
B5 exerts is effects on metabolic systems of the body and helps our body production / maintain amino acids, blood cells, vitamin D3 and other fatty acids.
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
Vitamin B6 can also be found in many systems, with it helping synthesize neurotransmitters (little packets of information our cells use to communicate with each other), and playing a role in immune system functioning, the metabolism of amino acids and the health our blood cells.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C (aka ascorbic acid) is a vitamin that is heavily involved in collagen synthesis to help us with tissue repair, tissue maintenance and thus, may have anti-aging properties. It can promote resistance to infections, improve mood, and work as an anti-hypertensive (non-fda approved indications).
Vitamin C will increase glucose readings for about 8 hours. If checking glucose daily or regularly for diabetes, it is recommended you check your glucose readings before your infusion and no sooner than 8 hours after, to avoid dosing any diabetic medications inappropriately.
Also, larger doses can increase risk of oxalate stones. These doses are not currently used at Elite.
Avoid Vitamin C if you have A G6PD deficiency, hemochromatosis or sickle cell anemia.
Biotin (Vitamin B7)
Biotin (aka vitamin B7) has a variety roles in our bodies. It plays an important part in metabolism of carbohydrates, amino acids, and lipids. Biotin is used to improved the health of our hair, skin, and nails. Studies suggest, it can also provide relief in those suffering from neuropathy.
Importantly, rare reports indicate biotin can cause falsely low troponin levels, which are elevated when experiencing a heart attack. This could lead to mis-diagnosis. Also, may affect hormone and thyroid function tests. ONLY FOUND IN THOSE TAKING DAILY ORAL DOSES OF BIOTIN.
Vitamin B12 (Methyl cobalamin)
Vitamin B12 can be given intramuscular (IM), deep into subcutaneous tissue (SubQ), or intravenously (IV). Safest administration is via IM or SubQ.
It has important functions in metabolism, GI health, nervous system health and the maintenance of our red blood cells. Use of H2 receptor antagonists, PPIs, metformin decrease vitamin B12 absorption in intestine and regular use can be associated with deficiency.
Do not use if you have with hereditary optic nerve atrophy (Leber’s disease), cobalt hypersensitivity, or benzyl alcohol hypersensitivity.
Excess amounts are often excreted but a rare hypersensitivity rash can occur.
Folic Acid (folate or vitamin B9)
Folic acid plays a role in the health of our blood cells (heme synthesis), RNA (precursor to DNA) and amino acid metabolism.
*Avoid in benzyl alcohol hypersensitivity, or if you have diagnosis of pernicious anemia
Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium is involved in essentially all of our body systems including over 300 enzymatic reactions, energy/metabolism, osteogenesis (bone growth), bone ossification (strength), RNA/DNA synthesis, maintaining integrity of musculoskeletal system, activation of vitamin D, protein synthesis, nerve function, blood pressure regulation and more. Magnesium can also help in those with chronic pain states as it interacts with NDMDA receptors, known to play a role with chronic pain.
See our contraindications page. Magnesium IV is not save for those with a poor cardiac (heart) history or certain abnormal heart rhythms (AV block). It is avoided in those with myasthenia gravis, on medications called calcium channel blockers and those on blood thinners.
Calcium
Calcium is an essential mineral that is involved in the health of so many of our body’s systems. It helps maintain health of nervous, muscular and skeletal systems! It has main role in building our bones, blood coagulation and the electric system of our heart.
Avoid in those with poor cardiac history, especially ventricular fibrillation and/or taking digoxin. Avoid in CKD, sarcoidosis, hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D toxicity and kidney stones.
Selenium
Selenium is an antioxidant mineral that contributes to proper functioning of our immune systems and has a role in the metabolism in glucose.
High daily doses are not recommended. Should be used in caution in those with gastrointestinal disease and renal impairment.
